Where Can I Travel Cheaply?

Looking to travel cheaply overseas? We hope you find some useful information in this article.

Contrary to popular belief, traveling cheaply does not require special  connections, a willingness to sleep outside every night, or the ability to survive off minimal amounts of food. Actually, in many countries all over the world it is possible to travel cheaply and maintain a fairly high living standard. The economic differences between America and many other countries in the world is drastic and you’d be surprised to see how far you can stretch $20 in a lot of places.

When planning to travel cheaply there are some factors you’ll want to take into consideration. First, are you looking for a place with a well established tourism infrastructure – this may be more comfortable for the some but also more expensive. If you’re willing to go off the beaten
path into areas that may not be typical tourist destinations you can really experience a culture and in my opinion have a much more authentic and exciting experience. You often can stay in nice places and travel cheaply but this requires a more lax attitude and a bit of ingenuity.

Next when planning to travel cheaply, you must decide what that means to you. Are you looking to spend $5 or $20 a day, there is a big difference. For $5/day you’re fairly limited to very poor countries,
where with $20/day you should be able to travel relatively anywhere fairly comfortable.

Asisa is a great place for traveling cheaply. There are a lot of countries that aren’t very popular tourist destinations but offer a lot of history, culture and authenticity. For example, Cambodia and Laos are
cheap. You can find a place to stay for as little as a few bucks a day, and get a pretty nice room for only $10. Meals are typically a dollar or two and even nice restaurants that cater to tourists only cost about $5/meal. You can travel Cambodia in relative luxury for only about $20/day and Laos is cheaper than that! A lot of Southeast Asia is absolutely amazing to see and relatively cheap making it a great destination for travelers on a budget. Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam are also excellent countries to visit. You can even come home with a story and say “back in nam” and not be lying.

As mentioned a couple times already, the cheapest travel destinations in these countries are typically those that are less appealing to the mainstream tourists. In Indonesia, Bali is relatively expensive compared to other islands that aren’t as well known. Similarly in Cambodia the
town of Siem Reap is considerably pricier than an average small beach town.

Europe is typically a more expensive place to travel but it doesn’t need to be. You can often find good deals staying in hostels, or traveling about in Eastern European countries like Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, or Latvia. All of these countries are great to visit with a solid tourism infrastrcuture in place. They are also a fraction of the cost when compared with countries like Switzerland and France.

South America and Central America are great places to travel cheaply. Countries like Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil offer an immense amount of natural beauty and are affordable to travel in. These countries are growing slightly more expensive as the
Western tourists visit more and more.

And last but definitely not least on the list is Africa. Countries like Ghana, Ethiopia and Egypt offer cheap lodging and food. They are also relatively safe and provide many rich histories and cultures.  You might even bump into the godaddy CEO shooting an elephant!
